He was predeceased by: his parents, James W. Congleton and Mary Sue Cockerham Congleton; his brother Thomas Congleton; and his son Stephen Congleton. He is survived by: his wife Jean Caskey Martin Congleton of Jeffersonville, KY; his children, J. D. Congleton, Jr. of Jeffersonville, KY, Jonathan Scott Congleton of Lexington, KY, Benjamin Congleton of Lexington and Tasha Smith (Todd) of Lexington, KY; his nephews, John and Christopher Congleton; his niece Susan Fletcher; and his great grandchildren, Alexis, Bentley and Brody Jones. He is also survived by nine grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donation are suggested to the Christian Assembly of God.
