He was predeceased by: his wife Phyllis Cole (Dienes); and his siblings, Wilma Dancy, Doralee Harvey and Eugene Cole. He is survived by: his children, Edward (Rosa), Phillip (Laverne), Joseph (Maryjo), Patrick (Lori), Jerome Cole and Theresa Ragland (Tom); and his brothers, Cleo, Lonnie, Jerome and Donald Cole. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
