He was predeceased by: his wife Shirley Gough Reed; his children, Robert David Reed and Rhonda Gail Wade; his siblings, Bobby Reed, Jerry Reed, Donna Castleberry and Barbara Faye Clark; and his parents, Clyde Bass and Jessie Filbeck Reed.
He is survived by: his son Greg Reed of Benton, KY; and his brother Jimmy Ray Reed of Hardin, KY. He is also survived by six grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
