He was predeceased by: his parents, Curtis Smith and Margaret Smith; his children, John Ellis Smith, Jr. and Saundra Lashel Smith; and his siblings, Evelyn Embry, James "Bimbo" Smith and Terry Smith.
He is survived by: his brothers, Craig, Dwight and Perry; his daughter Karol Yvonne Smith of Henderson, KY; his siblings, Pat Carter of Hebbardsville, KY, Marie Knott of Hebbardsville, KY, Teresa Buckman of Henderson, KY, Lena Yancy of Niagara, KY, Karen Baxter of Bluff City, KY, Billie Jo Smith of Henderson, KY, Curtis W. Smith, Jr. of Henderson, KY, Jeff Smith of Henderson, KY, Jody Smith of Bluff City, KY and Joby Smith of Uniontown, KY; and his grandchildren, Yvonne Duncan (Jayde), Cassie Calvert (Chris), Angel Courtney, Derrick Smith and Tiffany Smith. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
