He was predeceased by: his parents, James Cartwright and Effie Cartwright; his siblings, Jane Kloke and Tom Cartwright; and his half-brothers, Carlos Hoggard, Walter Hoggard and T. J. Hoggard.

He is survived by: his niece Mary Luther of Evansville, IN; and his nephew Aaron Cartwright.
