He was predeceased by: his mother Jane Whitlock; his brother Enoch Smith, Jr.; his wife Patricia "Patty" Smith; his daughter Alicia Hurston (Mark); his sister Jan Whitlock; his granddaughters, Rachel Hurston and Jasmine Hurston; and his pet Coco.
