He was predeceased by: his parents, Manley Tappan and Caroline Tappan; and his sister Ruth Parker. He is survived by: his wife Louise Locke Tappan of Hebron, KY; his children, Adam Tappan (Paula) of Lexington, KY and Amber L. Tappan; and his siblings, Frank Tappan (Barb) and Carol Sue Ramos.
