With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Walter Prater of Hazard, Kentucky, born in Elmrock, Kentucky, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. He was predeceased by: his parents, David Pharoah Prater and Hattie Combs Prater; his wife Martha Gibson Prater; his son Gregory J. Prater; and his siblings, James, Willie, Ralph, Paul Prater, Tressie Messer, Eve Short, Wilma Slone, Mary Ruth Kelsay and Jessie Creech.
He is survived by: his children, Janet Smith (Don) of Hazard, KY, Jeff Prater of Hazard, KY, Michael Lee Prater of Cincinnati, OH and John Prater of Hazard, KY; his sister Mildred Risner of Hindman, KY; his grandchildren, Eric Prater (Katherine), Chase Smith, Daron Prater, Adam Prater (Lauren) and Hank Gabbard (Amy); and his great grandchild Elijah. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, family & friends.
