He was predeceased by: his parents, Dewey Hanks and Alma Roberts Hanks; his wife Delores Jean Gray Hanks; his children, Joseph Randal Hanks, Kathleen Rose Hanks Brown, Kenneth Ray Hanks, Jr. and Kevin Robert "Hanky" Hanks; his great grandchild Jamison Robert Hanks; his son-in-law Dale Ray Severs; and his sister Anita "Tiny" Robbins.
He is survived by: his daughter Karen Ranae Hanks Severs; his sister Hazel Lee Hanks Smith of Lawrenceburg, KY; and his son-in-law Tim Brown (Lisa) of Lanesville, IN. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
