He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Clayton and Clara Evelyn Fanning Sanders; his wife Geneva Belle Shipley; his stepson Robert Wayne Martin; and his siblings, Ray Sanders, Jim Sanders, Bonnie Shetters and Ruby Arrick.
He is survived by: his stepdaughter Patricia Rearden of Hartford; his stepdaughter-in-law Susan Maxwell of Gilbertsville, KY; and his sisters, Faye Weaver of Ardmore, AL and JoAnn Bagwell of Decatur, AL. He is also survived by 3 step grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren; 3 step great great grandchildren; 2 step great great great grandchildren.
