He was predeceased by: his parents, Lonnie Phelps Sr. and Bernice Ward Phelps; his great grandchild Anna Claire Taylor; and his siblings, Eugene, John Phelps, Pauline Daugherty, Ann Bullock, Deloris Geary and Sudie Pendley.
He is survived by: his wife Joanna Embry Phelps; his sons, Steven Phelps (Christine) of Owensboro, Mark Phelps (Jody) of Hartford and Joseph Phelps (Angelic) of Louisville; his grandchildren, Tony Phelps (Kalin), Sarai Taylor (Nathan), Steven Phelps, Rebekah Phelps, April Salois (Andrew), William Phelps, Miranda Phelps, Daniel Phelps and Wendy Worthington Black (Jodi); his great grandchildren, Alex Phelps, Judah Taylor and Miriam Salois; his brothers, J. C. Phelps (Janet) and Walter Phelps (Bonnie); and his daughter Kathy Ball. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation to Cedar Grove General Baptist Church.
