He was predeceased by: his parents, Fritz Potts and Virginia Crutchfield Potts. He is survived by: his wife Patricia Montgomery Potts; his sons, Richard Stephen "Chip" Potts (Ashley Elizabeth Potts) and Jonathan Michael Potts; his grandchildren, Rien Elizabeth Potts, Henry Jameson Potts and Hunter Fergson Potts; his cousins, David Lee Crutchfield and Bonnie Brumfield (Potts); and his brothers-in-law, David Montgomery (Tanya Montgomery) and John Montgomery (Kathleen Montgomery). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to Liberty Road Faith Fellowship. Military Honors at 3:45 PM at Liberty Road Faith Fellowship Memorial Contributions.
