He was predeceased by: his parents, Clayton Howard and Viola Britt Howard Gilliam; and his brothers, Joe Gilliam and John Estes. He is survived by: his children, Vannessa Thurston (Nick) of Virginia and Gillis Howard Jr. of Virginia; and his sisters, Patricia Engle of Williamsburg, OH, Judy Williams of Harlan and Clarissa Byrd. He is also survived by five grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
