He was predeceased by: his parent D. L. Davies; his sister Margaret Davies Slusher; his siblings-in-law, Ike Slusher and Anna Sue Davies; and his son Samuel Mils.

He is survived by: his nieces and nephews, Deborah Slusher, Virginia Martin Sarah M. (Steve), JaneL Paynter (Charles), Drew Davies (Debbi), Mark Davies and Danna Miller (Darren); his great-nieces and great-nephews, Amy Meeron (Steven), Alice McConnell (Joey), Sarah J. Smith (Nathan), CJ Ausmus (Katherine), Martin Ausmus, Lauren Paynter Kristen Paynter (Katie), Meghan Paynter, Dawson Miller, Dane Miller and Andrea Davies; and also, Spencer, Jackson McConnell, Maddie Meeron, JuliaRose, Addie and Samantha Jane Ausmus. He is also survived by cousins, other relatives and special friends.

“Uncle David had no family of his own, but he was definitely a family-man. His family was more important than anything and he went to great lengths to love and care for them. His caring knew no bounds and extended to so many people. His sense of the importance of family the love that connects us brought him, along with his brother, to my wedding to his nephew, David A. Davies, "Drew". This act, this journey he made from Kentucky to Texas to keep his family whole meant more to us than anything.”
