He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard, Sr. Dowell and Hattie Lee Dowell; his wife Anna Frances Dowell; his daughters, Betty Prather and Janie McAfee; and his siblings, Lewis, Strother, Jim Dowell, Josephine Madden, Lucille Powell and Christine Bandy.
He is survived by: his children, Dorothy Ray (Elroy), Mary Ledford and Richie Dowell (Sandy). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
