He was predeceased by: his parents, John A. Scalise, Sr. and Clementina Scalise (Roy); his wife Jeanne Scalise (Henson); his siblings, Frank Scalise, Marie Gray and Esther Shar; his nephew Robert J. Nystrom; and his brother-in-law Joseph Herndon.

He is survived by: his sister Lucille Herndon (Gary Moore) of Clairton; his nieces and nephews, Alexis Trubiani (Robert) of Donora, John Shar (Shannon) of Crafton, Donna Watson (late Tom) of Pleasant Hills and Gloria Costa of Jefferson Hills; and his sister-in-law Beverly Scalise of California. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
