He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Payton Gibbs and Bertha Flickanger Gibbs; his wife Margie Ann Swafford Gibbs; his granddaughter Celesti Griffith; his siblings, Donald Payton Gibbs, Thomas "Ed" Gibbs, Kenneth Gibbs, Sonny Gibbs, Sonia Gibbs, Dorothy Fike and Nancy Dunn; and his sister-in-law Sue Gibbs.
He is survived by: his children, Tammy Shawn Gibbs Frasher (Chad) of London, Robin Elaine Gibbs Folkerth (Robert) of Kettering and Robert Braxton Turtletaub (Whitney) of Corbin; his brother Norman Gibbs (Della); his grandchildren, Megan Nantz, Douglas Saunders, Whitney Judy, Jaydane Brown, Jennie Blue Frasher, Zoie Turtletaub, Alexis Frasher, Kate Hood, William Folkerth and Brooke Jett; and his great grandchildren, Bryce Judy, Logan Judy, Keyara Saunders, Jack Hood, Allie Hood, Brooke Jett, Izzabella Saunders, J'vari Durham and Douglas.
