He was predeceased by: his parents, Enoch Arden and Jennie Bourne Caroland; and his niece Donna Jo Sirk Carpenter (Arthur). He is survived by: his wife Eloise "Ellie" Crickard Caroland; his children, Jennifer Caroland-Shaw (Jim) and Brad Caroland (Tina); his grandchildren, Dorothy Shaw, John Gordon Shaw, Christopher Pasley and Ryan Pasley; his sister Mary Ritter of Virginia; and his nieces and nephews, Mary Arden Ritter McElroy (Charlie), Christie Sirk Mentzer (Doug), Robin Harris, Pam Bagley, Stephen Sirk and David Sirk (Bonnie).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the UK College of Engineering Scholarship Fund, 351 Ralph G. Anderson Blvd, Lexington, KY 40546.
