He was predeceased by: his parents, John G. Samples and Mollie Brumley Samples; his daughter Melinda Kay Perry; his siblings, Joe Brumley and Betty Burgess; and the mother of his children Ollie Downey Samples.
He is survived by: his children, Frank Downey, Teresa Brock, Janice Collins (Ernest), Misty Arlene Kincaid, Darlene McKinney and Augustus Samples, Jr.; and his siblings, John E. Samples, Owen Samples, Lillie Hensley, Wilma Scott, Bert Parsons, Patsy Worley, Parthena Hughes, Dixie West and Wanda Perdue. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
