He was predeceased by: his parents, Elbert Gardner Bates, Sr. and Alice Mildred Turner Bates. He is survived by: his wife Rose Arlene Beckner Bates of Franklin; his children, Melissa Bauer (Ronnie) of Orlando, FL and Royce Gregory Bates (Freda) of Swifton, AR; his siblings, Betty McConnachie, Laura Hutchins (Lolly), Harriet Parrish, Thomas Bates and Rachel Haggan; and his grandchildren, Lynne Fors, Erik Fors (Nicole), Heather Hillard (Kris), Charles T. Bates, Matthew Bates and Bailey Chavez. He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren.
