He was predeceased by: his spouse Sissy Ahern Dotson; his son Blake Whitney Dotson; his sister Ruth Dotson Richardson; his grandson Jordan Hall; and also Walter "Buck".

He is survived by: his children, Janet Dotson Hall (Mark) of Lexington and Heath Dotson (Leigh) of Georgetown; his daughter-in-law Petra Dotson of Versailles; his siblings, Edith Hogg of Versailles, Kenneth Dotson, Phillip Dotson, Versailles Dotson and Gerald Dotson; his grandchildren, Gavin Hall, Sarah Hall, Taylor Dotson, Luke Dotson, Reece Dotson and Olivia Dotson; and also Elizabeth Kinley Dotson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests Memorial Donations be sent to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
