He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilhelm Gerdes and Elisabeth Koss; and his siblings, Elisabeth Schmitz and Anton Gerdes. He is survived by: his wife Christina Huentelmann; his children, Rita Garrett (William), Doris Wilker (Jerry), Barbara Koplyay (Stephen), Connie Boggs (Sam), Bill Gerdes (Annette), Monica Littrell and Lori Tenhundfeld (Rob); his grandchildren, Elizabeth Garrett Halpin (Sam), Christina, Katherine Koplyay, Connor, Austin Frohn, Will Boggs, Benny, Natalie, Matthew Gerdes, Emma, Sarah Littrell, Ellen, Jack, Luke and Ryan Tenhundfeld; his great grandchild Thomas Halpin; and his siblings, Margaret Loxterkamp, Marie Kroger and George Gerdes.
