He was predeceased by: his parents, Orpha "Ma'am" Spencer (Spillman) and Clifford Spencer; his wife Esther Spencer; his children, Charla Watts, Cindy Cain, Crystal Sturgill and Chuck Cain; his grandson Charles "Punchin" Sturgill; and his siblings, Flora "Sis" Grubbs, Mary Jane "Toots" Brown, Austin "Auck" Spencer, Ica Campbell, Viola Roach, Orville "Doll" Spencer, Ernest "Ernie" Spencer, Betty Lee Spencer Gentry and Carolyn June Jackson.
He is survived by: his children, Elbert Ray Spencer, Jr. (Jennifer), David Glenn Spencer (Julie), Eric Ray Spencer (Bethany), Tanya Raye Forgue (Harry), Brandi Sue Forgue (James) and John Boles (Michelle); his children-in-law, Lisa Gross and Raymond Sturgill; and his siblings, Early Gene "Gene" Spencer, Anna Mae "Mae" Horn and Connie Gayle Branscum. He is also survived by grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren.
