He was predeceased by: his parents, John K. Whelan and Hattie Ellen Whelan; his brothers, Bertrand Whelan, Marcel Whelan and George Philip Whelan; and his granddaughter Vannah Rose Morgan.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Pike Whelan of Flaherty, KY; his children, Tim Whelan (Sherry) of Louisville, KY, Chris Whelan (Janice) of Flaherty, KY, Ellen Jones (Kenny) of Flaherty, KY, Kateri Whelan of Flaherty, KY and Mary Richard Brangers (Michael) of Flaherty, KY; and his siblings, Mike Whelan of Louisville, KY, Paul Martin Whelan (Dee) of Tampa, FL, Forrest Whelan (Beth) of Scottsville, KY and Mary Ellen Williams (Freddy) of St. John, KY. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren.
