He was predeceased by: his parents, Lucian Burton and Audra Adams Burton; his wife Brenda Jane Lowery Burton; his daughter Angie Burton Lykins; and his siblings, Carson Burton, Phillip Burton and Ersie Pettit.
He is survived by: his sons, Matthew Burton (Alisha) of Hillsboro and Brian Burton (Alicia Whitaker) of Richmond; and his siblings, Larry Burton (Karen) of Ewing and Christine Moore of Flemingsburg. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; three great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, other extended family and friends.
