He was predeceased by: his wife Elizabeth "Liz" Abner Smith; his parents, Victor Smith and Carrie Thompson Smith; and his siblings, Fannie Smith, Curtis Ray, Donnie and John Smith.
He is survived by: his children, David R. Smith, Jr. (Amber) and Taylor Owens (Dale); his sisters, Kathy Smith of Harlan and Loretta Smith of Harlan; his grandchildren, Lucas McPherson, Aaliyah, Alexis and Alysah Short; his nephew Donnie Smith (Karol); and his friends, Roger White and Denny Creech. He is also survived by his family, friends and co-workers.
