He was predeceased by: his parents, Ruice Smith and Mildred Neal Smith; his wife Phyllis Hawk Smith; his niece Angela Lynn Smith; and his grandson Michael Neal Meece.

He is survived by: his stepsons, William Virgil Meece of Louisiana and Albert Lee "Mickey" Meece (Kimberly) of Somerset; his niece Tonya Wesson (Josh) of Somerset; his nephew Tracey Smith (Phyllis) of Somerset; his grandchildren, Corey Reliford (Corienna) and Lacey Ermers (Billy); his stepgrandson William Christopher Meece of Louisiana; and his great grandchild Dakota Ermers.
