He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Portier and Settie Portier; and his sisters, Rebecca Earlywine and Mary Lou Abel. He is survived by: his close friend Ethel Jane Portier; his daughters, Patty Wade (Jimmy) of Charlotte, NC and Penny Hungler (Stephen) of St. Johns, FL; his stepdaughters, Kathy Watters (Chris) of Knoxville, TN and Janine Abdellaoui of Delhi Hills, OH; his grandchildren, Jenny Lanier (Jason), Tyler Portier (Brittney), Taylor Anne Wade, John Briedis, Luke Briedis (Katie), Clayton Fowler (Autumn), Adam Abdellaoui and Layla Abdellaoui; his great grandchildren, Leighton, Aubrey, Magnus and Briar; and his friend Richard Middendorf. He is also survived by his family and friends.
