He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Cecil and Maude Banta (Rucker); his wife Emma Banta (Chaney); his son Allen Dwight Banta; his granddaughter Kimberly Bernice Banta; and his siblings, Dorothy Mae Perry, Melissa Evelyn Hawkins, Helen Marie Perry, Thelma Lorine Roberts, Oliver Perry Banta and Isaac Farrel Banta.
He is survived by: his sons, William Howard Banta (Edna) of Frankfort and Terry Lynn Banta (Val) of Newark, OH.; and his grandchildren, Gilbert Scott Banta (Jean), Jerry Allen Banta (Kathy), Emmala Michelle Jones (Jon), Jenny Banta (Brian), Bruce Hoagland (Holly), William H. Banta, II (Rachel), Stephanie Rothenberger (Phillip) and Christina Jerrine Banta.
