He was predeceased by: his father Virgil G. P. Boyd; his brother Joseph Boyd; and his daughter Judith Diane Boyd. He is survived by: his siblings, Loise Mae Carter (William Lee), Geneva Badgett, Yvonne Sims, Nelceda Miller (Larry) and Eugene Boyd (Evelyn); his children, Kenny Vessels (Kathy), Joyce Vessels Butticci (George), Patricia Boyd McMurdy (Ron), Bobbie Vessels Estes Clenney, William Randall Vessels (Gail) and Nelceda Boyd Ashcraft Shoffner (Glenn); his grandchildren, Kenneth Vessels, Ryan Butticci (Kelly), Karli Butticci Pachniak (Anthony), Kristin Estes, Kevin Estes, Kyra Clenney Sharp (Christian), Pamela McKenney, Kiersten Shumway, Justin Vessels (Jasmine), Timothy Ashcraft, Jilean Ashcraft Sample (Jack) and Terry Ashcraft; his former wife Ann Kosh; and his spouse Clorine Vessels. He is also survived by 24 great grandchildren.
