He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Trail and Ora Trail; his wife Virginia Trail; and his children, Thurston Trail, Jr., Daniel Trail and Marquetta Todd.

He is survived by: his children, Robert William Trail of Calhoun, GA, Gloria Jones of Calhoun, GA and Becky Radcliff of Banner, KY; and also Emily Drake. He is also survived by several grandchildren; many great-grandchildren.
