He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Darnell and Anna Lucille Biszmaier Darnell; and his siblings, Anna Lockhart and George Darnell. He is survived by: his wife Mona Rhea Martin Darnell; his children, Robert Lowell Darnell, Jr. (Jeanny), Richard Lynn Darnell, Angela Rhea Darnell (Sharon) and Rory Lee Darnell (Donna); and his siblings, Charles Darnell (Chris) and Carolyn Schwerthoffer. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews.
