He was predeceased by: his parents, Gustavo Velez and Rosa Perez; and his brother Robert Velez. He is survived by: his wife Charlotte McAfee Velez; his daughter Valerie Barthold Weld (Richard) of Morgan Hill; his sister Jenny Velez (Juan Pichardo) of Brooklyn; his cousins, Henry Betancourt and Kitty Betancourt; and his siblings-in-law, Kenneth McAfee (Lillie) and Nancy Puryear (Leslie). He is also survived by nieces, nephews and friends.
