He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, George Stewart and Vern Stewart (Flaspoehler); his daughter Mary Stewart; his wife Bonnie Kopp Stewart of Eastview; his children, Gerald Stewart of Ramsey, Robin Ernst of Louisville, Brenda Patton of Shepherdsville and James Stewart of Louisville; and his siblings, George Stewart of California, Eugene Stewart of Pennsylvania, Marianna Meurer of California, Joan DeCarlo of Texas and Sandy Gregor of California. He was also cherished by 21 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
