He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Bates and Jessie Poe (Glendine Chaney Bates); his siblings, Flem Bates, Roger Bates, Earl Bates, Woodford Bates, Johnny Bates and Hazel Bates; his great grandchild Wyatt Hargis Lewis; and his grandson Jacob Ryan Bates.
He is survived by: his sons, Paul Hargis Bates (Fannie Roark) and Jessie (Melinda Stidham); his grandchildren, Nicole Stidham, TJ Stidham and Jessie Stidham II; and his sister Margaret Ingram.
