He was predeceased by: his parents, Mable "Halene" Gary Gates and Chester Gates. He is survived by: his wife Marie Collins Gates of Russellville, KY; his children, Tara Strange of Madisonville, KY, Autumn Salsman (Bill) of Dawson Springs, Greg Gates (Kim) of Madisonville and C. J. Gates (Dixie) of Madisonville; and his siblings, Murel Bivins of Slaughters, KY, Jean Rickard of Hanson, Anna Petrakavitz of Jeffersonville, IN, Eula Smith of Madisonville, Janice Pate of Ashland City, TN, Gary Gates of Madisonville, Mary Turpin of Hanson, Darrell Gates of Madisonville and Tim Gates of La Grange, KY. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
