He was predeceased by: his parents, Babe Shepherd and Rebecca Hicks Shepherd; and his siblings, Arnold Elmer Shepherd, Wanda Wicker and Bonnie Shortridge.

He is survived by: his daughters, Deitra "Dee" Hackworth (Paul Cowsar) and Tania Holbrook (Kevin); his sister Thelma Prater (Billy Joe); his grandchildren, Taylor Hackworth and Jonathan Holbrook; his fiancée Pamela Gullett; his stepdaughter Jamie Howell; and his stepgrandchildren, Cadence and Melody Howell.
