He was predeceased by: his parents, Verland Bill and Addie Beth Burgess; and his sister Sandra Burgess. He is survived by: his wife Donna Bates Burgess of Cunningham; his daughter Whitney Sutterfield (Danny) of San Angelo, Texas; his stepchildren, Cliff Tolbert (Shanda) of Reidland, Latisha McClain (Dennis) of Summerville and Kirstie Nichols of Paducah; his siblings, Anita Roach (Ronald) of Bethel Springs, Tennessee, Ruthie Burgess of Bethel Springs, Tennessee, Stevie Burgess of Arlington and Gene Burgess (Sue) of Arlington; and his grandchildren, Kyra, CJ, Olivia and Jake.
