He was predeceased by: his father Howard Thompson; and his siblings, Hillard Thompson, Alfred Thompson, Wilburn Thompson, Clifford Thompson, Irene Brown and Leona Thompson.

He is survived by: his children, Paula Weisenberger (Mark), Darrell Thompson (Tina) and James Darren Thompson; and his granddaughters, Miranda Conley (Derek) and Lydia Claycomb (Craig).
