He was predeceased by: his parents, James G. "Jim" and Catherine Payne Shelton. He is survived by: his son Joey Edward Shelton Companion; his stepchildren, Allisson (Jake Stevens), Tyler Agee and Wayman (Ashley Parker); his stepgrandchildren, Stephanie, Audrey Stevens and Paige Parker; and his siblings, Elizabeth (Gene Manning Dale), John Shelton, Bill (Carolyn Shelton), Tea Shelton, Truman Shelton and David (Velma Shelton).
