He was predeceased by: his parents, William Estill Steger and Nancy Ella Gibson; his wife Mary Lee Surgner; and his daughter Teresa Cox Collins. He is survived by: his children, Robin Cox, Stacy Warfield Bright (Danny) and Nanette Tye; his sister Nancy Jane Himes; his niece Cheryl King (Todd); his nephew Chris Himes; his grandchildren, Darrell Woolum (Michelle), Mark Woolum, Nickolas Goley, Brandon Goley, Sarah Tye, Derrick Tye, Jeremy Cox, Justin Cox, Joshua Cox, Allen Warfield and Jessica Warfield; and his great grandchild William.

A graveside service was held on Monday, January 13th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Barbourville Cemetery (106 KY-225, Barbourville, KY 40906).
