He is survived by: his wife Sandy Maxey; his son Johnie Maxey Jr. (Mindy) of Lexington, Two; his stepsons, Glen Sparks II (Alanna Cannon) and Christopher Sparks; his siblings, Jimmy Maxey (Sue) of Columbia and Diane Stinnett (Stanley) of Columbia; his grandchildren, Jonathon Sparks, Hunter Demshar-Maxey, Haylee Maxey and Colin Sparks; his mother-in-law Sallie Cook; and his brother-in-law Bill Cook of Knifley.
