He was predeceased by: his parents, Sam Godbey and Mattie Warren Godbey; his former wife Artie Louella Wheeler Godbey; his sons, Earl Samuel Godbey and William Roy Godbey; and his siblings, Coy Godbey, Virtrees Godbey, Roy Godbey, Deloris Jean Godbey and Mary Florence Stephens.
He is survived by: his children, Carla Godbey (Jasper Rodgers) of Columbia, KY, Robin King (Brian) of Liberty, Melissa Hoover (Brad) of Waynesburg, Harold J. Godbey II of Liberty and Rebekah Jo Galloway of Crab Orchard; his siblings, Edward Godbey of Ohio and Charlotte Irwin (Marty) of Ohio; his grandchildren, Keonah, Natasha, Amanda, Sami, Beau of Breyanna, B. J., Brandon, Josh, Waylon, Emily and Elayna; and his wife Judy May Godbey. He is also survived by her children and grandchildren.
