He was predeceased by: his son Josh Roche; his stepfather George Rice; his grandparents, Elmer, Beatrice Turner Caldwell, Twyman and Pearl Keltner Baker; his brother Ricky Caldwell; his aunt Ruby; and his uncle Phillip Keltner.

He is survived by: his wife Cynthia V. Caldwell; his children, Heather Sanders (Randy Helmberger), Joshua Martinez, Louis Martinez and Erica Newsom (Cole); his mother Christine Rice; his siblings, Joseph Caldwell (Kelly), Cherita McFarland (Rick), Missy Roy (Jeff) and Janet Biggs; his cousin Kathy Cox (Jimmie); his daughter-in-law Kim Soushek (Jim); and his sister-in-law Judy Caldwell.
