He was predeceased by: his parents, Jack Carpenter and Cloa Brown Carpenter Hawkins; his wife Wanda June Cogswell Carpenter; his stepson Bernard Joe Horton; and his grandson Josh Thibault.
He is survived by: his daughters, Cindy Kerns (Tim) of Morehead, Susan Ebersohl (Skyler) of Pontiac and Shirley Thibault of Nashville, Tennessee; his stepchildren, Janet Hogge (Don) of Morehead and Anthony "Tony" Horton of Hillsboro; his grandchildren, Wendy Dowler, Jamie Hogge, Aaron Horton, Rebekah Horton, Katlyn Brock, T. J. Mead, Miranda Vandegriff, Allie Kerns and Adrianna Kerns; and his siblings, Jackie Steve Carpenter of Luther, Oklahoma and Deloris Jeanette Wells of Clearwater, Florida. He is also survived by 26 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
