He was predeceased by: his parents, Johnie Sweet and Hattie Mathis Sweet; his siblings, Richard Sweet, Wilma Alvey, Jean Jaggers and Jeanettea Johnston; and his son Ashley Sweet.
He is survived by: his wife Carry Lavada Higdon Sweet; his children, J. J. Sweet (Celeste), Johnie Melvin Sweet, Jr. (Suzanne) and Nicki Stone (Mike); and his sister Stella Stasil of Hart County.
