He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard Burt and Dorothy Brockway Burt; his son Daniel "Danny" Burt; his granddaughter Charlene Maloney; and his brother Jeff Burt.

He is survived by: his wife Geraldine Burt of Caneyville; his children, James Henry Burt Jr. (Debra) of Lebanon, TN and Cheryl Johnson (Richard) of Caneyville; his grandchildren, Eric Heller, Charles James Heller, James Burt III, Carolyn Alexis Burt, Daniel James Burt, Amber, RJ Johnson, Jackie Bogle, Reagan Ottinger and Justin Maloney; and his sister Terri Dougher of Metford Lake, NJ.. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren.
