He was predeceased by: his parents, Chester Watkins and Rebecca Reynolds Watkins; his wife Elsie Moore Watkins; and his siblings, Raymond Watkins, Virgil Watkins, Margie Moore and Virgie Watkins.
He is survived by: his children, Ernie Watkins (Lillian) of Campton, Kentucky, Christopher Watkins (Rita) of Campton, Kentucky, Allene Rose (Rick) of Campton, Kentucky and Kay Rose (Wayne) of Campton, Kentucky; and his siblings, Leonard Watkins of Campton, Kentucky and Marie Long of Campton, Kentucky.. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; twenty two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
