He was predeceased by: his parents, Rufus Shanks and Estill Miller Shanks; his wife Joann G. Shanks; his daughter Cindy Shanks West; and his sister Helen Hicklin.
He is survived by: his son Robert "Bobby" Shanks (Andrea Riggs) of Calhoun; his grandchildren, Justin West (Magan) of Louisville, Travis West of Louisville, Allison Choate (Jared) of Princeton, Kelsie Thomas (Trevor) of Island and Candace Shanks (Steven Humphrey) of Livermore; his close friend Betty Young of Calhoun; and his siblings, David Shanks (Mary) of Madisonville, Shirley Reynolds of Sacramento and Anna Jean Todd of Hopkins County. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends.
