He was predeceased by: his parents, Carey Thomas Vinson, Sr. and Mallie Vinson (Guier); his sons, James Stanley Vinson, Forest Vinson and Nathan Vinson; and his siblings, Jesse Vinson, James Vinson, Lula Wilson and June Yeates.

He is survived by: his wife Nell Vinson (Petty) of Cadiz; his son Dr. Carey T. Vinson (Tracey) of Pittsburgh; his grandchildren, Cassandra Erenrich (John), Thomas Vinson, Robert Vinson, Forrest Vinson and Jesse Vinson; his brother Roger C. Vinson (Ellen) of Pensacola, Fla.; and his daughters-in-law, Brenda Vinson of Cadiz and Robin Vinson of Newport News.
